Private School

My eight year old has been diagnosed with an attention challenge (I don't like the word disorder) and unlike many of the friends I have, I decided to use medication to help her succeed in school. She has a pretty good network of support including a neurologist, therapist, a great teacher this year, and of course her family and friends. I'm in the process of figuring out what to do for fifth grade. Should she attend private school or public school? Philadelphia public schools in general are pretty crappy. I mean, I don't know how else to say it. Private school is expensive, so I'd love to find a good public school. If anyone out there knows of one, please respond.

Beginning

Today is the first day of the rest of my life. I've decided I need to start doing things I like again which includes writing. Having a husband and kids, mortgage, day care, a special needs child etc. etc. often decreases one's ability to think about self. In fact, thinking about self almost becomes haram. A thing you just don't do because you will be perceived as selfish. I guess now that my youngest is turning three soon, and my husband has run for office, I think it is high time I start thinking about me again. I'm looking forward to it.

What I'd like to do with this blog is pontificate, but also offer useful information to folks about my areas of interest including Philly politics, ADHD, women, men, people of color, African Americans, music, parenting and my list goes on. In fact, this will be a hodgepodge of stuff, and I'll probably talk most about what others are interested in--as secured by posting--and my interests. So tell me. What are you thinking? What do you think about the Vick case, Kim Porter, Philly homicides?
